Talisman

OF THE

MOON & VENUS

FOR

Good Neighbors

AND

Friendship

The current chart, an astrological talisman, was requested by a student wished to attract good neighbors and get along well with them. However, I could not find a talisman specifically for attracting good neighbors in our traditional sources.
However, we can use traditional principles to create an appropriate talisman. The English astrologer, William Lilly says that neighbors are signified by the 3rd house. Christian Astrology, page 52. Since the first house signifies the elector (person using the election), the 1st and the 3rd houses are the focus of our election.
We would seek to find a time when the rulers of these houses are well dignified and well placed and, if possible applying to a positive aspect. Alternatively, we could put the ruler of the 1st in the 3rd or ruler of the 3rd in the 1st.
Chart produced by Solar Fire 5
The time chosen for the election is January 24, 2004 at 12:31 pm EST in Cleveland Park, a neighborhood of Washington, D.C. 38 N 56, 77 W 03. At this time 28 Taurus rises and thus Venus is the ruler of the Ascendant.
Venus is highly dignified by exaltation and triplicity. The ruler of the 3rd of neighbors is the Moon. The Moon applies to conjoin Venus and they are both in the 11th house of friendship.
We have moved nasty Saturn into the 2nd, so he doesn't afflict the 3rd and hopefully got far enough on the Ascendant away from Algol, the nastiest of fixed stars.
Once we found a time that fit our criteria, we would then use that time to make our talisman and do a consecration ritual. Since we do not have a specific image specified for our talisman, we will follow Cornelius Agrippa who says,

"There remains as yet an other manner of images not according to the similitude of Celestiall figures, but according to the similitude of that which the mind of the worker desires, of whose they are the effigies, and representation: So to procure love we make images embracing one the other: to discord, striking one the other; to bring misery, or destruction as dammage to a man, or house, or City or any thing else, we make images distorted, broken in members, and parts after the likeness and figure of that thing which we would destroy or damnifie..."

Three Books of Occult Philosophy, Bk II, ch. 49.
We would therefore construct a talisman with images of good neighbors and of friendship, like the image at the top right of this page. Agrippa even advises us on the inscription and ceremony for the talisman,

Venus Symbol
"And Magicians advise us that in casting or engraving images we would write upon it the name of the effect; and this on the back when evill, as destruction; on the belly when good, as love. Moreover in the forehead of the image let be written the name of the species or Individuum which the image represents, or for whom or against whom it is made. Also on the breast let the name of the signe or face ascending, and Lord thereof be written; also the names and Characters of its Angels. Moreover in making the image they advise that prayer for the effect for which it is made, be used.

Three Books of Occult Philosophy, Bk II, ch. 49.
In this case we would write our goal on the middle of the image as it is for good. On the forehead we could write "good neighbors" as we do not have a specific person in mind. Using our election as a reference, on the breast we would write Taurus and its lord which Agrippa says is Asmodel. Three Books of Occult Philosophy Bk. III, ch. 24.
We would write the name of the lord of the Ascendant, who is Venus or her symbols. I would add the Moon, as she is conjoining Venus in our election and is the lord of the 3rd. Agrippa says that Gabriel is the lord of the Moon and Haniel or Anael of Venus. Three Books of Occult Philosophy Bk. III, ch. 24.
If you wish to delve even deeper into this fascinating area I offer an Electional Astrology Course, an Astrological Magic Course, a Mansions of the Moon Mini-Course a Planetary Magic Mini-Course as well as Astrology and Magic Books and my discussion group Spiritus Mundi.
