Spica is is
traditionally considered the most benefic fixed star.
Nigel Jackson and I will both be
making use of an auspicious conjunction of Spica and the Moon on
September 27, 2003. Banners of emerald-turquoise
raw silk will be made by Patti Jackson with talismanic emblems applied in
gold silk paint by Nigel Jackson while I will be inscribing silver
Spica talismans.
Spica is the brightest star in the constellation
Virgo and thus is also known as alpha Virginis.
It is located in the sheaf of wheat held by Virgo. Bernadette Brady says that Spica
was considered a symbol of the gifts of harvest and bounty to mankind. Brady's
Book of Fixed Stars (Weiser, 1998) page 273. Ptolemy says that Spica is of the
nature of Venus and to a lesser extent
Mars. Tetrabiblos Bk. I, Chapter 9 (Loeb, 1940)
page 51.
The Renaissance mage
Cornelius Agrippa says,
"Under the Spike [Spica] they
made the image of a bird, or a man laden with merchandise; it conferreth riches,
and maketh one overcome contentions, it taketh away scarcity and mischief."

Spica Silk Banner
You can see the Spica bird and ear of wheat designs
that Nigel will be hand painting on the Spica banners at the elected
time (adjusted for his location). The design will also include the Spica sigil
The Spica banners will be made in be in gold
silk paint on green raw silk banners, 70 cm x 21 cm approximately 27.5 inches x 8.25 inches,
with a tassel as well as dowel and cord for hanging.
These banners are specially
designed for use on altars or as wall
hangings. Beautiful works of art, they are also astrological talismans, charged with
the energy of Spica, by the creation of the proper design at the proper time, and
then consecrated by Nigel Jackson himself.
