In the Neoplatonic/Hermetic worldview the heavenly bodies were the essential link between the World of the Divine Ideas and the Material World. The astrologer uses these these sympathies and interconnections for the predictions using natal, mundane and horary astrology.
These types of traditional astrology focus on Fate: asking what will or has happened? Even electional astrology which allows us to choose astrologically propitious time to take action, like the other varieties of astrology, is essentially passive as the astrologer merely observes the action of the Divine ideas mediated through the Zodiacal powers on the material and sublunary realm.
A strological magic, however, through the construction of astrological talismans allows the mage or magical astrologer to directly affect and utilize the chains of sympathy and correspondence that permeate the Cosmos. By choosing an astrologically propitious times through electional astrology and constructing talismans with appropriate characters, signs, and symbols as well as appropriate fumigations, rituals and music, a wide variety of effects can be achieved.

In his Three Books of Occult Philosophy the famous Renaissance astrologer and mage Cornelius Agrippa says that a Saturn talisman,

"[D]oth help to bring forth or birth, and to make a man safe and powerful, and cause success of petitions with princes and powers..."

As we can see the Saturn talisman gives power and safety. A modern source, Nick Farrell, says that Saturn can be used for issues with Fate, time, limits and structures. Making Talismans, (Llewellyn, 2001) page 10.

How Is the Saturn Talisman Made?

The first step in making a Saturn talisman is to select a date and time when Saturn is strong, usually either in his signs Capricorn or Aquarius or his exaltation Libra. It is also possible to make Saturn talismans when Saturn is in signs of the airy triplicity which he rules by day. We then place him in the Midheaven or Ascendant where he is best able to manifest his effects. We make sure that he is not afflicted by a conjunction, square or opposition to Mars, who is naturally malefic planets, or by bad aspects from the rulers of the 8th, 12th and 6th houses. We would like the Moon to be strong and making a favorable aspect, either a sextile, trine or conjunction to Saturn. We would also, if possible, like it to be the day of Saturn (Saturday) and his planetary hour.
At our chosen time we engrave the table of Saturn on one side of a specially prepared plate, as directed by Agrippa. Agrippa suggests a lead plate, but I am leary of working with or wearing lead talismans. The Renaissance philosopher Marsilio Ficino says that gold and silver are best for images. Three Books on Life Bk. III, Chapter 16, (Kaske & Clarke) page 327. Ficino specifically suggests gold for Saturn and says,

"Do no doubt that Saturn has quite a bit to do with gold. His weight leads people to believe so; furthermore, gold, being similar to the Sun, is by the same token in all metals in the way that the Sun is in all the planets and stars...

The table of Saturn, which we engrave on our gold plate, is a magic square, an arrangement of numbers in which the vertical, horizontal and diagonal rows all add up to the same number. Each planet has a different magic square associated with it. On the other side we engrave the seal of Saturn as well as various characters, symbols and signs.
As desired by the client a Saturn talisman can be made either as a necklace or bracelet and can be strung on a leather cord or a string of Saturn ruled precious stones and gems, like black onyx.

Do You Mass Produce Talismans?

Each talisman is unique and engraved by hand for an individual client. If possible, I will examine the birth chart of each client in order to calibrate the talisman to each individual. For example, if a client has Saturn ruling the 8th house, for example, or in a particularly afflicted state in their natal horoscope it is probably not advisable for them to wear a Saturn talisman.
In addition, the election of a time for making talismans is not based merely on a single astrological factor, like the phases of the Moon, but a full traditional astrological analysis encompassing many factors.
There are occasions, however, when the astrological factors are so favorable that I will make a limited number of talismans without being requested by a client. A good example are the talismans for Passion & Harmony in Love & Marriage.

You can judge for yourself. Here is an example of a Moon Talisman for attracting clients, money and publicity. After making this talisman there was a definite increase in hits on my web site. I had a flood of clients after magic, 6 questions in 5 days. I had an article published in the Astrological Association Journal. I got a web site of week award from Astropro on March 12, 2001 thus explaining the increase in hits. I got a total of 54 from this link in week of the ritual.
