The trip combined astrology lectures, astrological magic workshops and pilgrimage to Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines. Once again, it would have been impossible without my good friend, student and guide, Munehisa Yoshigaki, who is a top Japanese professional astrologer. Chris & Munehisa at Osaka Shrine I lectured on traditional astrology and did individual traditional natal readings in Tokyo and Osaka and an astrological magic workshops where the participants created Spica talismans in Tokyo. I was very pleased and gratified at the enthusiasm of the participants! Lecturing in Osaka One of the highlights of the trip was being able to do Jupiter planetary initiations in a Shinto Shrine in Osaka! Osaka Planetary Initiation I was able to sit zazen with a Rinzai Zen monk at Daiji-in at the Daitokuji temple complex in Kyoto. It's not easy to sit zazen in Japan! Daiji-in, Kyoto I was able to make pilgrimage to many temples and shrines in Kyoto and Nara, the ancient capitols of Japan. The contrast between the small scale Zen temples with dry gardens in Kyoto, like the Hojo Gardens here... Hojo Garden, Tofukuji Rinzai Zen Temple, Kyoto And the monumental temples and Buddhas in Nara was quite interesting. The Great Buddha at Todaiji in Nara is 50 feet high and weighs over 500 tons! Great Buddha, Todai-ji, Nara I really enjoyed meeting the sacred deer of Nara! Sacred Deer, Nara I am already making plans to return to Japan in 2015!
