Venus in Libra Talisman from Picatrix, Agrippa and Bruno

The maid who modestly conceals
Her beauties, while she hides, reveals;
Give but a glimpse, and fancy draws
Whate’er the Grecian Venus was.

Edward Moore

We are privileged in our study of Astrological Magic and Astrological Talismans to have to have another image by Nigel Jackson; a beautiful Venus in Libra, a portion of which appears above to right.

Copper and Lapis Venus Necklace
The description of this image comes from three traditional sources. The first is Picatrix, a compendium of medieval Arabic astral magic. Here is the passage from the Ouroboros Picatrix recently translated from Arabic,

Apollonius symbolizes Venus by a woman standing with an apple in her right hand and holding a comb that looks like a board with various pictures on it, in her left hand.

Ouroboros Picatrix, Bk. II, Chapter 10.
Here is the description from the Latin Picatrix,

Si ex formis Veneris formam mulieris feceris in eius dextra malum tenentis, in sinistra vero pectinem, in lapide albo, primo facie Libre ascendente, qui hac ymaginem supra se habuerit sive portaverit ridens erit semper et alacer.

According to the form of Venus make the form of a woman, holding an apple in her right hand and a comb in her left hand, in white stone, the first face of Libra ascending, and whoever has or carries the above image will always laugh and be cheerful.

Picatrix Bk. II, Chapter 10 (Translation by Christopher Warnock, Esq.)

Here is the description from Cornelius Agrippa,

They made another Image of Venus, the first face of Taurus or Libra or Pisces ascending with Venus, the figure of which was a little maide with her hair spread abroad, cloathed in long and white garments, holding a Laurell Apple, or flowers in her right hand, in her left a Combe. Its reported to make men pleasant, jocand, strong, cheerful and to give beauty.

Three Books of Occult Philosophy, Bk. II, Chapter 42.
And here are two descriptions from Giordano Bruno where he provides 49 Planetary Images,

First Image of Venus: A nude Girl crowned with Myrtle having long hair all the way down to her ankles and before her a sportive white Bitch.

Fourth: A Woman riding upon a Bull having a Hair-Comb in her right hand, a Looking-Glass in her left by whom stands a Youth with a Green Bird in his hand.

De Umbris Idearum (Translation by Nigel Jackson)
At the elected time and date, August 16, 2002 at 10:13 am EDT (+4) at Cleveland Park, a Washington, D.C. neighborhood, 38 N 56 77 W 03, Venus rises in her first face. Venus is dignified by sign and term. The Moon makes an applying trine to Venus. It is even the planetary day (Friday) of Venus.
