Astrological Talismans for Peace, Love and Reconciliation with your Mother, Boss or King from Picatrix

And then believe me, my love is as fair

As any mother’s child, though not so bright

As those gold candles fix’d in heaven’s air:

This week's elections highlight several facets of traditional electional astrology that we have not dealt with before: (1) use of the natal or horary chart as the basis of an election for a talisman; and (2) the use of two talismans made at different times to effectuate a magical connection between the people or things they signify.
Our traditional sources agree that it is always important to examine
Medieval Child
the birth chart of the person for whom an election is made. At a minimum we would wish to avoid having the ruler of the 8th house (and if possible the 6th or 12th houses) as a significator in the election. The 17th century English astrologer Willliam Ramesey says, "If the chief significator of any businesse be unfortunate in the radix [natal chart], there can be no time Elected to prevent the mischief threatened..." Astrologia Restaurata Bk. III, Chapter 1, page 122. Ramesey also notes that if the natal chart is unavailable that the chart of a horary question can be used as a basis for a relevant election.
This week's talismans from Picatrix, an important work of medieval Arabic astrological magic alludes to this use of the natal and/or horary chart as a basis for a talismanic election,
Mother Nursing
An image to generate peace and love between two [people]. Fashion two images under the Ascendant of the questioner, and make fortunate the Ascendant and 10th house, and remove infortunes from the first house, and place the lord of the 10th house fortunately and aspecting itself to the lord of the Ascendant by a trine or sextile aspect.
Picatrix (Pingree ed.) Bk. I, Chapter 5, page 16. (Translation by Robert Thomas).
Picatrix goes on to say that,
And there is a second image that may be fashioned: if it is done for two friends, place the eleventh house in the Ascendant of it as aforesaid in the first image; and if you wish to generate love between a man and woman, place the Ascendant of the second image as the seventh house from the first . And form it so that the Lord of the Ascendant of he who seeks love shall aspect the lord of the Ascendant of the other [person] with a good aspect and that they are well received of one another. After this join the images and bury them in the place of the one who is sought; and they will be friends that were apart before.
Picatrix (Pingree ed.) Bk. I, Chapter 5, page 16. (Translation by Robert Thomas).
Using the principles set forth in these two citations from Picatrix we will elect a time for our talismans. The key is first to determine the relationship between the two parties we wish to affect. We then decide which houses apply, e.g. for marriage 1st-7th, for friendship, 1st-11th. Finally, we construct two talismans and make the appropriate house in the first talisman the ascendant in the second talisman.
Chart produced by Solar Fire 5
The time chosen for the first talisman is September 7, 2001 at 0:56 am (12:56am) EDT in Washington, D.C. 38 N 55, 77 W 03.
This is a hypothetical election as we will be using an Ascendant of 3 degrees of Cancer and a Midheaven of 12 degrees Pisces as if we were working with a corresponding natal or horary chart.
As Cancer rises, the Moon is the ruler of the 1st. The Moon is strong in her exaltation, Taurus as well as her face and in the benefic 11th house. She is making an applying sextile to Jupiter, the Greater Benefic and ruler of the 10th house.
Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, and being in Cancer, the Moon's sign, the sextile is with reception. Jupiter is in the angular 1st house and as a bonus the benefic North Node is conjunct the Ascendant.

Now let's take a look at our second chart.
Chart produced by Solar Fire 5

The time chosen for the second talisman is September 7, 2001 at 7:16 pm EDT in Washington, D.C. 38 N 55, 77 W 03. At this time the cusp of the Midheavean, 12 Pisces, on the first chart has now become the Ascendant of our second chart.
Interestingly enough, we still have lots of connections between the 10th house and 1st house or querent even in the second chart as Jupiter is the ruler of the 1st and 10th and the Moon is in an almost exact sextile with reception of Jupiter.
Now what use could we make of such talismans? William Lilly says that the 10th is the house of Kings, Princes, Judges, and Mothers. Christian Astrology page 55. In contemporary society it is also the house of your boss or employer. This method of talisman making could therefore be quite useful for reconciliation with any of the types of people represented by the 10th house.
