The current chart, an
astrological talisman, comes from
Picatrix, an encyclopedic work of astrological
magic. The Ouroboros Press English translation of books one and two of Picatrix is now
available from Renaissance Astrology.
Our current astrological talisman is a love talisman.
As you read the various versions of the astrological recipe for this talisman consider
how they combine several different types of astrological factors. The election requires
the use of planetary hours, the planets
considered in terms of being benefics (Jupiter and Venus), the planets in terms of
their natural rulership (Moon as messenger and action, Venus as goddess of love)
and house rulerships (1st and 7th houses signifying love and marriage).
This complexity of election is what distinquishes
Picatrix and its astrological magic practice, probably derived from the Hermetic
Harranian Sabians, from other types of astral magic. The complexity of elections,
however, makes the task of the electional astrologer that much more difficult.
I, therefore, thank William Stickevers for pointing this election out to me.
Let us look at several different versions of our
electional recipe. Here
is the Ouroboros Picatrix translation from Arabic,
A talisman for two lovers to get together and have a long-lasting relationship
Talismans of this type are made when the ascendant is in the hour of Jupiter and
Al-Ras together with Venus are conjunct to them or facing them or when the sign of
Al-Sabi is connected to the sign of the Ascendant in a triangular or hexagonal
form. Combine them side by side and bury them in the location of love.
A talisman of this type is also made for a man who leaves his family whom you
wish to return.
Ouroboros Picatrix, (Ouroboros Press, 2000) page 31.
Here is the translation from the Latin Picatrix of the
same section,
If you desire to fashion images to place love between two people, and
that of them love and affection should be made strong and strengthened,
fashion images of the two [people] in their likenesses. And let this be
done in the hour of Jupiter or Venus, and let the North Node [be] placed
in the Ascendant, and let the Moon [be] with Venus or aspecting her with
a good aspect, and let the lord of the 7th house aspect the lord of the
Ascendant with a trine or sextile aspect. And after this, I say join the
images together face to face, and bury them in a different place -
that is to say, [the place] of that other who is beloved by the magician .
And it shall be as you desire.
Picatrix, (translated by Robert Thomas).
Here is my edited version of the Ouroboros Picatrix
translation from my Guide to Picatrix,
Talismans of this type are made in the hour of Jupiter when the North Node
is in the ascendant and the Moon is beholding or conjunct Venus and when
the lord of the 7th house aspects the lord of the ascendant with a an applying
trine or sextile. Bind the talisman together and bury them in the location
where you wish the love to manifest. A talisman of this type is also made for
a man who leaves his family whom you wish to have return.
Ouroboros Picatrix, (Ouroboros Press, 2000) page 31. Additional editing by Christopher
Warnock.
The time chosen for
the election is July 8, 2005 at 12:27 a.m. EDT in Cleveland Park, a neighborhood
of Washington, D.C. 38 N 56, 77 W 03.
At this time it is the
planetary hour of Venus.
The North Node is in the Ascendant.
The Moon will eventually conjoin Venus. The 1st ruler
Mars will eventually be trined by Venus, the 7th ruler.
To bad the Sun gets in the
way of Venus and Mars, and Jupiter of the Moon and Venus. Still, a reasonable election
considering how difficult 2005 is!
