An Astrological Election of the Tenth House for Fame and Publicity

All is Ephemeral, Fame and the Famous as well.

Marcus Aurelius
Meditations. iv. 35.

Fame has long been associated with the tenth house. Al-Biruni, the 9th century Arabic astrologer says that the tenth house represents, "the celebrated in all classes". Book of Instruction Section 462 (Wright trans.) page 276. However, when the famous English astrologer William Lilly says that the tenth house is the house of honor we do not necessarily connect this with fame. Christian Astrology page 55. However, traditionally honor had much to do with how others saw us and was inextricably linked with reputation.
In his 1528 Book of the Courtier, a famous Renaissance manual of instruction for aristocrats, Count Baldassare Castiglione wrote,
...I judge the principall and true profession of a Courtyer ought to be in feates of armes...And even as in women honestye once stained doth never retourne againe to the former astate; so the fame of a gentleman, that carieth weapon [if it suffers the slightest blemish] in any litle point through dastardlines or any other reproache, doeth everymore continue shameful in the world and full of [ignominy].
The Book of the Courtier [Hoby trans.] Bk. I, Chapter 17 (Everyman Library,1994) page 42.
This week's chart can be used as an election for a fame producing activity, like sending out press releases, or for a talisman based on the tenth house.

Chart produced by Solar Fire 5

The time chosen for the election is August 5, 2001 at 10:33 am EDT in Washington, D.C. 38 N 55, 77 W 03. At this time Libra rises. Thus Venus is the ruler of the ascendant and significator of the elector (person who will be using the election). Venus is in Cancer and as she rules water signs by day, in triplicity rulership as well as being in her face. Venus is conjunct the 10th house cusp.
Venus is making an applying conjunction to Jupiter, the Greater Benefic, who is in his exaltation and in the 10th house. Both Venus and Jupiter are conjunct the benefic North Node. The Moon, the ruler of the 10th house, is making an applying trine with reception to Venus and Jupiter.
We also note that the Sun the natural significator of honor, Lilly, Christian Astrology page 556, is strong in his sign Leo and well placed in the 11th house of hopes, dreams and friendship.
Table of Jupiter

An appropriate talisman for this election could be made using the Table of Jupiter from Cornelius Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy Bk. II, Chapter 22 (Tyson ed.) page 322, which appears at right. We might also add the Angels of Jupiter, the Sun and Venus, which are Zadkiel, Raphael and Hanael, respectively. Three Books of Occult Philosophy Bk. III, Chapter 24 (Tyson ed.) page 532.
