Talisman from Agrippa, Bruno and Picatrix for Love, and Election for Wealth, Fame and Magic

But why do we think Love is a Magician?
Because the whole power of Magic consists in Love.

Commentary on Plato's Symposium

Marsilio Ficino

Rather than providing a chart for the current week I have chosen to highlight what I consider to be one of the best days of the year for using Astrological Magic to create Astrological Talismans.
On April 14, 2002 we have the Greater Benefic, Jupiter, the Lesser Benefic Venus and the Moon strong, well placed and aspecting each other in a very positive and benefic fashion.
So let's take a look at the descriptions from our traditional sources. The first is from Cornelius Agrippa,

"They made another Image of Venus for to get the love of women, in the Lapis Lazulus, at the hour of Venus, Venus ascending in Taurus, the figure of which was a naked maide with her haire spread abroad, having a looking glass in her hand, and a chain tyed about her neck, and nigh her a handsome young man holding her with his left hand by the chain, but with his right hand making up her hair, and they both look lovingly on one another, and about them is a little winged boy holding a sword or a dart."

Three Books of Occult Philosophy, Bk. II Chap. 43.

Giordano Bruno describes several similar images,

"A youth with a silver chain; and next to him a naked maiden dancing with a laurel crown... A golden winged boy with shining hair whose feathers have a thousand colors holding a flaming javelin...A youth and a girl wrestling, both naked, being bound with a golden chain."

De Umbris Idearum
Finally we have the description from Picatrix,

"Si ex formis Veneris formam puelle [puella] nude feceris, in eius collo cathenam circa eam tenetis, et iuxta eam hominem habentis, retro vero formam pueri parvi ensem elevantis, in hora Veneris, lapide lazuli, qui hanc ymaginem secum portaverit a mulieribus diligetur et quod voluerit faciet."

"Of the image of Venus make the image of a nude boy [girl] with a chain around his [her] neck that a man nearby is holding, behind them is the form of a small boy holding up a sword, in the hour of Venus, in the stone lapis lazuli, and whoever carries this women will like him and do what he wishes."

Picatrix, Bk. II, Chapter 10, page 70. (Translation by Christopher Warnock, Esq.)
The top chart corresponds to the descriptions from our sources as Venus is rising in Taurus in the planetary hour of Venus. The second chart, entited Venus/Moon/Jupiter would be an excellent time to make either a Venus or Moon talisman. We note that the Moon is exalted and in her face, Venus is in her sign and triplicity and Jupiter is in his exaltation and term. All are thus highly dignified.
The Moon separates from a sextile of Jupiter with reception by sign and applies to a conjunction of Venus with strong mutual reception by sign and exaltation.
Chart produced by Solar Fire 5
The Moon rules the first of the elector (person using the election) and the second of wealth. Jupiter, the natural significator of wealth is conjunct the Ascendant. The Part of Fortune is ruled by the Moon and conjunct the second house. Venus is the almuten of the seventh of marriage and permanent relationships. Jupiter is the ruler of the tenth of fame and career. What an election!
You can use the tables, seals and characters of Venus found on the Venus Talisman page or those at the Moon Talisman page. Cornelius Agrippa says the Venus talisman,

"[P]rocureth concord, endeth strife, procureth the love of women [and men], conduceth to conception, is good against barreness, causeth ability for generation, dissolves enchantments, and causeth peace between men and women..."

and that the Moon table,

"[R]enders the bearer thereof grateful, amiable, pleasant, cheerful, honored, removing all malice, and ill will. It causeth security in a journey, increase of riches, and health of body, drives away enemies and other evil things from what place thou pleaseth..."

Cornelius Agrippa, Three Books of Occult Philosophy Bk. II, Chapter 22 (Tyson ed.) page 319.
Here is further information on Astrological Talismans and Astrological Magic. If you wish to delve even deeper into this fascinating area I offer an Astrological Magic Web Course as well as a traditional astrology and astrological magic discussion group Spiritus Mundi.
