Renaissance Astrology is pleased to present a coordinated series of astrological talismans and workshops for 2008 organized around the theme of the search for esoteric knowledge.
In the Centiloquium or Liber Fructus traditionally attributed to Ptolemy it says, "A judicious man helps forwards the celestial operations, even as the discreet husband-man [farmer or gardener] assists nature in his ploughing and preparing the ground." Aphorism 8. We can properly term this series of astrological events, Celestial Gardening, as we observe the cycles of the Heavens for 2008 and prepare to sow and then reap their magical harvest.
On each of the featured elections specially chosen by Christopher Warnock beautiful sterling silver talismans with incredible authentic designs by Nigel Jackson from descriptions in Cornelius Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy and Picatrix will be cast by Wade Coleman. For a selected number of the elections Christopher Warnock will create acid etched mirrors using Nigel Jackson talismanic images.
Currently the June 8, 2008 Venus Cazimi Dream talisman will also have an in person workshop in Iowa City, Iowa with Christopher Warnock. Participants will learn about lucid, that is self aware dreams and how to have visionary dreams with dream incubation as well as participate in group ritual while making their own visionary dream talisman. This is an excellent opportunity to meet the world's leading astrological magician and participate in powerful group ritual.
There will also be a Skype conference workshop for every 2008 talisman event. Participants will receive additional pdf materials and will be part of a Skype conference with Christopher Warnock and special guests as noted. While the first 7 celestial spheres moving out from Earth are those of the 7 traditional planets, the 8th sphere, that of the fixed stars, retains its enigmatic allure. In Mysteries of the Eighth Sphere we will be exploring the philosophy and practice of fixed star talismans beginning with a talisman of the fixed star Procyon.
Procyon, the Lesser Dog Star, is said to "conferreth the favor of the gods, of spirits, and men; it giveth power against Witchcrafts, and preserveth health." Cornelius Agrippa, Three Books of Occult Philosophy. Bk II, ch. 47. Its greatest popularity among Renaissance Astrology clients is as a protection against curses and malefic spirituality.
Nigel's black frizzly rooster image was the inspiration for the Astrology for Rootworkers Course, a joint project between Christopher Warnock/Renaissance Astrology and Cat Yronwode/Lucky Mojo, combining the expertise of a leading traditional astrologer and rootworker. Rootwork or hoodoo (Southern folk magic) combines very well with astrology and rootworkers made use of astrology for timing and other purposes. The Procyon talisman image shows the beneficial blending of these two traditions because not only is a rooster the image of Procyon in traditional sources but a frizzly black chicken is said to be an excellent hoodoo remedy for getting rid of curses.

2008 beckons us to explore beyond the planets and to delve into the arcane puzzles of the 28 Mansions of the Moon. A true lunar Zodiac the Mansions are strange and esoteric even to many practiced astrologers. Their true ancient renown was as a key source for astrological talismans and eldritch magic. Cornelius Agrippa says, "...in these twenty eight Mansions do lye hid many secrets of the wisdom of the Ancients, by the which they wrought wonders on all things which are under the circle of the Moon;" Three Books of Occult Philosophy Bk. II, ch. 33.
The Third Mansion, al-Thurayya, is one of my personal favorites. Said by Picatrix to be for "all good things" the Third is an excellent mansion for financial gain and good fortune.
